Law Committee IC/OOC info
This is a summary of info discussed for handling Law Committee both OOC and IC.
Law Committee Members:
Law Committee History:
As the population of the Haven grew, it became clear quickly that some form of organization would be necessary. With the Firstforged being occupied by their own affairs, the Law Committee was proposed and loosely assembled by Blurr. Due to his position as head of the Police Force, however, Blurr abstained from becoming a member of the Law Committee, and left the slots open to popular vote.
The Firstforged had one requirement: For the Law Committee to be recognized as an official force, there needed to be member from each Firstforged present. Once this condition had been filled, the Law Committee was free to pursue its own agenda.
This remained a rocky path, with not all of the Firstforged content with the actions of the Refugees. However, with the establishment of the Law Committee Groups (detailed below), progress was finally made.
Currently, new Law Committee members are decided both by popular vote, and by the Bureaucracy group.
Law Committee groups
To facilitate handling various operations around the Haven IN character, we'll be dividing the Law Committee into groups. This way, your group can discuss things easily in-character amongst two or three people instead of the full committee.
It can be assumed that once your group has reached a decision, they have reported it to the group as a whole and thus gotten the required 'approval' of someone from each Firstforged. Just make sure to let the rest of the Law Committee know OOC what this decision was!
The Overseer
The Overseer acts like a president to the Law Committee. They are the face of the Committee to the public, and are responsible for listening to the concerns of everyone in the Haven and making sure those concerns are passed onto the right group to be addressed. They talk with all the groups and keep things running, and can 'veto' actions that they think will go against the will of the Haven. This person should be elected via community-wide vote (and thus isn't a group that can be requested--the appointing will be handled IC.)
Law Group
The Law Group is responsible for making Laws that align with the ideals of the Haven and the Firstforged, and which the Police are capable of enforcing. They are also responsible for making sure the public is aware of these laws and that the Laws benefit the majority of the populace. To prevent those who work in the Police from having a conflict of interest, this group cannot be composted of a majority of police officers.
Defense Group
The Defense Group handle the operations of the Police Force. They determine the proper procedures for handling criminals, the proper procedures for handling outside threats, and the proper procedures for handling emergency situations around the haven--including additional Police recruitment and distribution of supplies in a crisis. They are capable of enlisting the Police force and other individuals as a temporary military if needed.
Police Force members
Judicial Group
Once the Police have apprehended someone who has theoretically broken the Law, the Trial group is responsible for determining their Guilt/Innocence and how to handle their punishment. This group will be working with the Firstforged in determining how the criminal will be handled, but they will ultimately be the ones to decide the fate of the accused.
Bureaucracy Group
The Bureaucracy Group is responsible for handling communications between the other groups and the Firstforged/public. It is their job to recruit new individuals for the Law Committee as needed, and also their job to speak to newcomers and make them aware of the situation on Cybertron. This group handles elections for the Overseer and decides how long terms of office will be.
Zoning Group
As the population of Cybertron grows, this group handles the gathering of supplies to accommodate various individuals and also determines the best places for new structures to be built. If there are conflicts regarding ownership of the land, the Zoning Group takes charge of resolving them. As there is a lot of Cybertron to cover, the Zoning Group will also be responsible for explorations and mapping, and will confer with those venturing into the outer lands to determine where is safe and where threats might come from.
Science Group
The Science Group is dedicated to researching possible ways to get home and also new technologies to make citizens more comfortable. They can assist with determining if a scientific crime has been committed, and can also work with organizin medics and doctors in containing and identifying technological threats or viral outbreaks.
