*Personality:

If it seems difficult to get a personality read off of Skids on first impression, that might be because he's making himself up as he goes. Having lost a good chunk of memories from his earlier life due to trauma, and a small chunk more recently due to it being erased, Skids is still putting himself back together bit by bit. Instead of letting his lack of memories bother him, however, Skids embraces the potential freedom that the loss entails. He decides spur-of-the-moment how he wants to be and then follows through with it unflinchingly, taking risks with ease and adapting to fit each situation as it unfolds.

It's lucky he's quick-thinking enough to do this. Being a self-professed Theoretician, Skids is not short in the intelligence department, and isn't precisely subtle about it either. His versatility allows him to thrive in otherwise stressful environments, a talent that he seems to enjoy himself when not outright flaunting it to those around him. He has a bit of a knack for showmanship, which when coupled with being in the right place at the right time makes for a very impressive spectacle.

Despite this...or, perhaps, because of it, Skids seems to make friends easily. He's often shown socializing in the ships bar or laughing with various crew-members in the background, and each time it's with a completely different crowd: Swerve, Hound, Chromedome, Trailbreaker, Tailgate, or all of the above with the occasional dash of Rung thrown in, and then some. He doesn't have much trouble fitting in, even if he's more than a bit cynical in his conversational wit or a way more blunt than he needs to be (c'mon, Rodimus, don't you know the difference between Briefing and Debriefing?) He can be talkative, and he can be friendly, but its a friendship with a bit of bite, and it requires a certain amount of good-natured-ness to tolerate.

Thankfully, Skids is pretty easy-going himself, which makes him much more pleasant to be around. Even though he believes life to be a bleak existence, an "ordeal devoid of meaning, hope, or joy," (his words), he doesn't seem eager to indulge in that void, and manages to have a good time no matter what situation he's forced into. His impatience is about the only thing that can get the better of him when in the thick of combat, though, and his tendency to be thinking ahead to the next step leaves him often showing up unexpectedly, demanding something, and getting instantly aggravated when his unclear command is not followed ("Claw; Just take off the damn claw" to Chromedome, "Engine rooms; Just take us to the damn engine rooms" to Brainstorm).

These aspects of his personality shine through, despite his best attempts to be a free-spirited, rebellious individual who is trying to re-define himself. Did him and orders have a falling out?

He can't remember.

But he does like people from a distance, and he does think Skids and Swerve sounds like a pretty cool duo, after all.

If only he can find somebody out there who likes music...

*Powers/Abilities:

Skids is identified as an 'Outlier,' a type of Cybertronian whose function does not align with their form. The form in question is somewhere between a car and a van, which seems to have excellent traction on dusty, gravelly surfaces, and also comes with a grappling hook that is usable in either mode. The function in question, (beyond being a graduate Theoretician), is that Skids is a congenital expert - he excels at picking up new skills and becoming rapidly proficient in them. Thus far, he's shown to be a crack shot, quick with his grappling hook, a 'practicing master of Metallikato,' and awesome on the battlefield, taking down at least two Legislators with a minimum of equipment.

Any other useful skills I expect he'll have to pick up while in Re-Aligned from an expert in the respective field.
Useless skills I intend to have him picking up at random. Expect Ballet.

Borrowing from his Henkei counterpart and the fact he was a Theoretician at the Jhiaxus Academy of Advanced Technology (Good old JAAT), I'll be loosely operating under the idea that his major theory of study was the ability of particles to cross dimensions--making the Lambda of particular interest to him. Since being a Theoretician at the Academy is one of the few things about his past he does remember, and since 'theory' means an very concrete thing in terms of science, I wanted to have a skill on hand for him to reference if he needed. I chose this particular major for him based off the rate of occurrence of dimensional travel and scientific expertise among other Skids entities throughout his wiki. Looking across the board, he is a Chief Scientist in 3H comics along with Perceptor, a member of the Autobot council in Dreamwave under Shockwave, stuck between dimensions in Marvel's comics, studying space-time warps in Binaltech, and successfully proving and utilizing the existence of cross-dimensional particles in Henkei. Additionally, since he's studying at the Jhiaxus Academy and some of Jhiaxus's significant contributions to science (whether for good or ill) involve the mapping of the Benzuli Expanse (a dimensional rift) and the re-establishment of the Space Bridge Network (another dimensional rift through Transwarp space), it made sense that these would be potential course offerings. Especially given that he was a student directly under Shockwave, who also later re-establishes the Space Bridge Network, I figured he'd have at least considered the idea once or twice. Mostly, however, I just wanted to give him something to be focusing on when he wasn't exploring Cybertron on getting drunk at the bar, and while scrolling down the Skids page it popped out at me and seemed interesting. I don't plan on him making a big deal out of it other than going 'oh hey this is neat I remember it from college.' After all--he's a Theoretician. He probably thought about this sort of concept all the time--but also probably never did anything about it.

*Inventory:

Knowing Skids, he probably arrives with a drink in his hand.

*Starting Polarity: Heh.

Writing Samples
*First Person Sample:

You know, lately, when I was thinking about enjoying the freedom to make my own destiny without worrying about the bits of my past I was missing, I sort of meant to be enjoying that freedom IN MY OWN GALAXY.

However, I guess I've woken up in plenty of stranger places.

Or. At least one stranger place.

[Really, nothing could beat coming online in a ship that turned into giant robots that were fixated on only one number. This was a pretty close second, though.]

I guess I've only got two questions.

[He rubs the back of his neck.]

First...is there anyone around who's qualified to give me orders?

And second...and...more importantly, is there a bar?

[He holds up an empty glass, which, given this new predicament, he knows he's going to want filled again.]

*Third Person Sample:

Life, lately, had been a whirlwind of making decisions and then rapidly having those decisions removed from him.

It had started with setting out to forge a new image for himself, ignoring the parts of his past past that were way too blurry to make out. Then, when things had become strange...well. When things had become stranger on Theophany, he'd realized that he shouldn't avoid the past. He'd even made the commitment to find out about it, seeking out Chromedome and giving him the old 'okay, yeah, you can stick your fingers in my brain.'

That hadn't worked out, either.

Now, just when he was getting the hang of teetering through uncertainty, knowing there was something to his past that he wasn't supposed to find out about and music in his head that wasn't going to go anywhere anytime soon, he found himself on a planet where his past wouldn't matter one iota and where there wasn't a shot of retrieving it, either way.

There were no choices, here.

He didn't really know who he was, and he didn't really know what he could do about it, and even if he could have done anything about it he was hundreds of fifth-coordinate light-years away from where he was meant to be. His life had been devolving into shorter and shorter segments of memorable moments ever since he'd woken up on that mode-locked ship, descending into ever decreasing moments of time, becoming only an exponential denominator ticking downward until there wouldn't even be recognizable scenes that changed.

There would only be change, itself.

Until then, however, he was here. He was in the now, wherever and whenever now was, and the rest of his theories could wait until tomorrow morning. There were people here he knew, and there were drinks here he could swallow, and that was good enough for him if he squinted.

Anything else...

Well, he'd just keep doing as he'd been doing.

He'd take it as it came.
